I finally got a chance to update this crazy blog today and I am super excited to announce this great blog/write-up our shop received after this very sweet local gal named Amanda Gorsche Miller attended our Hail to the King show! I am going to copy and paste her blog here for you to read and will also post the link below so you can read more of her posts on DesMoinesIsNotBoring.com!
Entertain your dark side at Finder’s Creepers
Posted on February 1, 2011 by Amanda Gorsche Miller
Finder’s Creepers is injecting a unique flavor to the local art scene. Located in the Western Gateway, west of downtown Des Moines at 515 18th Street, Finder’s Creepers is by far the most unique art gallery and shop I have heard of in town. Winner of “Best New Store” in the 2010 Cityview’s Annual Reader’s Poll, the shop has both a physical location and on online store where they sell dark and mysterious art from local artists, horror-themed t-shirts, ghoulish accessories, cd’s, and tons more, including perfume and even lip butter.

Now don’t be too quick to judge if art of the macabre variety isn’t your thing. Finder’s Creepers is a distinctive shop that requires a sense of humor and a sense of adventure. And it doesn’t hurt if Halloween is one of your favorite holidays.
I must confess, I hadn’t heard of Finder’s Creepers until several weeks ago when I saw through a twitter re-tweet that they were hosting a show with works inspired by author Stephen King, called “Hail to the King.” The show featured pieces inspired by each artists’ favorite Stephen King monster, while showcasing local artists and a local author who released his horror-themed book for the first time.
I have been a huge Stephen King fan since I was in middle school when I first read his novel “It.” The book scared me and for some reason I liked it. I started gorging myself on his novels and would patiently wait for his next gruesome masterpiece to come out each year. Whether you like horror novels or not, you have to admit that Stephen King is a prolific writer, whether entertaining the horror genre or others (films including “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Green Mile” are based on his works.)
I thought “Hail to the King” sounded really different and fun, so I found the shop’s website and started checking out other events they have coming up. The shop is offering a unique class to combat the monotony of Valentine’s Day called “Make & Take Monster Class,” where you create your very own Valentine’s Day monster in a two-hour class. You can either make the Valentine’s Day monster for your sweetheart or create your very own monster sweetheart on February 11th and 12th.
This Saturday, February 5th, Finder’s Creepers is holding an event called “4 Rooms,” which will feature four new films by local filmmaker, Kristian Day. The show will also include works of art inspired by the films from local artists. I applaud the shop for providing an outlet for compelling local artists whose works might get passed over because they are too dark or possibly not appealing to the masses. There’s an old saying that says “variety is the spice of life,” and I am glad Finder’s Creepers is injecting some spice into the Des Moines art scene.
